To qualify as a finalist a blog had to be nominated more than once.

The top 10 will be selected based on:

Quality of posts: A qualitative analysis of the content of posts will be examined. Educational and discussion-spurring posts are more valuable than self-promotional posts. (55% of decision)

Frequency of posts: Blogs that write multiple posts per week will score higher. This is a sign of the blog’s commitment to blogging. (15%)

Reader involvement: Blogs that have regular comments from readers are another sign of a healthy blog. In addition, the numbers of nominations for a specific blog play a part in this. (15%)

Technorati.com Ranking: The number of other blogs that link to the blog shows the value of the content. (15%)

Thanks to everyone who nominated Confident Writing - I was really moved to read the reasons you gave for nominating the blog. Thank you :-)

Congrats and it’s very nice to join you on the list. Have to say though, those criteria are a bit of a nonsense. I don’t mind it being a subjective choice at all (first bullet), but the rest sound like an excuse to make sure Copyblogger comes in first.

I genuinely hope Confident Writing pips them to the post - go on Joanna!

  1. Thanks everyone for your support and encouragement - and for the nominations you made at the time. I really appreciate it :-)

Cath thanks - it’s good to see you back and aroun

Iain interesting reflection on the criteria - I suspect it comes from a previous time when things like Technorati figured higher in ranking systems (no-one ever seems to mention them any more). Possibly the same point about frequency of posting - regular posting was previously deemed to a must but the thinking on this seems to have shifted over the last year or so.

Anyway, having beaten the mighty Copyblogger in another competition once upon a time… ;-) I’m up for the challenge

Good luck to you too - great to see Write for Your Life on the list
