Characteristics of a Friend Who’s Less Ordinary

You know your friend is less ordinary when she’s someone who will:

Take pictures of Scotland that will blow your mind

Walk along the canal with you and reflect on past times, writing, blogging, photography and much else besides

Share photographs in her Flickr stream that will change the way you see the world

Set up a photography group so that others can learn, teach, share and create together

Write guest posts for you - about what it’s like to write guest posts

Give you the inspiration for one of your most important ideas - in this case, the fire breathing writing dragon

Write not one but four entries for a group writing project you’re running

Introduce you to new media, and encourage you to use it too

Give you goodies to take to an international conference, so delegates get a little taste of Scotland (even though she couldn’t be there)

Organise a trip into town to share some fruit she’s received from a blogger in another part of the world

Show us how to see beauty in the imperfect

Tweet like the most charming, engaging person you know

Run photo challenges to help us tap into our creativity and change our perspective

Record a poem when you ask a question

Teach you about the relationship between writing and photography

Help you understand how purpose beats the inner critic

Be a good and loyal friend, online and off

And last but not least:

Enjoy a special birthday today

Happy birthday Amy!

    Happy Birthday Amy!
    Wonderful words Joanna.

Hi Joanna, Amy sounds like she stirs your creativity every time you get together.

Interestingly, I enjoy walks along the Erie Canal with Dr. Ellen Weber and I often have my camera in hand.

Not too long ago I invested in a movie camera just to push myself a bit further in an area I absolutely love as well.

Hope Amy has a very special day.

  1. Alina, Karen, thank you!

Robyn, yes, she does. I consider it a blessing that she also lives not so far away from me, and that we can meet up in person as well as exchanging ideas on line.

I’m fascinated by your movie camera initiative - maybe we’ll get some videos on brain based biz sometime?

    Happy Birthday Amy!
And it’s a really beautiful “memento” for Amy, showing her talent and values in a nice way.

    Happy birthday, Amy!

She will also befriend absolute strangers simply on the merit of their interest in her, and introduce them (us!) to a wonderful worldwide community online. I don’t know her yet as well as I would like to, but thus far she strikes me as one of the warmest, most open and generous people in the world.

Thank you, Joanna, for a touching and well-deserved tribute.

  2. Roland, Robert, thank you both. What wonderful friends Amy has!

Emily, what a beautiful thing for you to write. Your words moved me to tears - I’m sure Amy will be most touched.

What a lovely way to celebrate a friend’s birthday! I can’t remember if I discovered Amy through you, or you through Amy, but I’m happy I’ve added both of you to my blogging community.

    Happy belated birthday, Amy!

  5. Bo, I found you through Amy, and you found me through her. One of Amy’s most wonderful attributes is her ability to connect people together.

I feel so blessed to have found her.
