Where guest authoring = great hospitality

I was delighted to get an invitation from Rosa Say last month to contribute to a month’s long festival of guest posts at Talking Story.  I haven’t written my piece yet - I hope to finish it in the next day or so - but I’ve already been enjoying the conversation and the connections that are being made through Rosa’s masterful hosting of the forum.

The theme for July - the aloha value that we’ve been invited to write about - is hospitality, or ho’okipa.  There’s lots of interesting discussion going on between authors and commenters on what we mean by hospitality and how we can build it into our work and our lives - whether that’s working in the service industry, organising a meeting, being a decent employer, or finding ways to build the value of ho’okipa into our websites, our blogs and the words that we write.

As I said the connections are already beginning to flow: I’ve found a great coaching blog that’s written by Lisa Haneberg, the abundant writing of Maria Palma, received a serendipitous e-mail from Dave Rothacker at Rothacker Reviews, and been touched by - and connected with - an amazing story from Deb Estep.  Deb also produces beautiful art work - there’s an example of it here.

In a way this picture reflects the way the Talking Story forum makes you feel.  A good place to hang out.  A place to share and explore words, ideas, values, new possibilities.  To establish connections and forge new friendships.

What makes it possible is the positive attitude and contribution of the guest authors - the visitors, yes - but more than that it’s the style and attitude of our hostess, who models great hospitality in action.  We know what’s expected of us as authors, as contributors, as moderators, as learners.  We know that we can make positive connections with each other - because we’re brought together by someone we can trust.

Thanks Rosa for your work to create a community where we can learn and explore and find new words together.

Oh thank you Joanna for these delicious compliments, however you must know that your exuberant spirit has been a vital part of our early success with our ho’okipa forum - we share in this joy! It has been fun so far, hasn’t it?

This is a delightful surprise for me to know that these new connections have happened for you beyond what I’ve readily seen at Talking Story - I am truly thrilled.

I invite your readers to join us there too, and we eagerly await what you will write for us, confident Ho’okipa writing :-)

Hi Rosa, it has indeed been fun. I thought you might enjoy hearing how the ripples and connections extend beyond the forum itself…

Thanks for your lovely words here - like delving into a box of chocolates!

    Exuberant, delicious, delightful.

Much underused words. It is good to have the chance to practice them :)
